CTS attended the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last week. It was a great opportunity to check out new tech amenities for our property management clients and also it was fun to just experience some REALLY cool tech. When they say this event is huge, it’s an understatement! CES encompasses multiple convention centers and hotels in Vegas and we didn’t even see it all after three days.

We weren't surprised that there was an abundance of Internet of Things (IoT) hardware vendors represented at the show. Although there were some new IoT players in this space, we really wanted to focus on finding unique and innovative technology amenities that could someday be used in the apartments and clubhouses of the very near future.   Here is just a sample of some of the cool booths and attractions we visited.

Smart Inductive Charging Cook Top

This interactive stove-top has a built in touchscreen LED screen and uses inductive charging to heat any surface you choose, so you can completely customize the burner configuration and layout, plus look at the recipe... or watch a movie while cooking. The entire counter top is Qi enabled so you can charge/run appliances or even heat up special packets of food with RFID sensors that will automatically cook to a designated temperature. Could this be the stove-top of the future for apartment communities? What do you think?

Interactive Projectors for Fitness and Fun

This is an example of interactive projection technology that can be displayed on a wall, floor, or even a bar/counter top. See here on the left is President/CEO Travis Street competing (and losing miserably) by throwing a ball toward the target on the projected display. The goal is to hit the target as many times as possible, which is a core workout. There are sensors in the projector that can tell where a body or even a body part such as a hand is located, thereby reacting or changing the image, selecting menu options, etc. Technology such as this has many great applications in community living spaces or even clubhouse gyms.

Inductive Power for Living Spaces

This booth sponsored by Wi-Charge demonstrated the advancements and capabilities of wireless charging. Seen here is an electric train set being powered by the lamp-light device attached to the ceiling. Other devices being powered included wireless cameras, lights, and Qi-Charging surface pads on move-able tables. Applications for this type of technology are endless and could be used in living spaces in modern apartments of the very near future.

Would you use technology like this in your apartment community if the price was right?

Interactive Fitness Trainer Tool

The ICAROS Cloud (see here in this video) is a digitally connected training tool. It will be part of group training classes in gyms just as well as a fully developed home training device. According to their site, It is inflatable and made of materials used for Stand Up Paddling boards. It is adjustable and connectable with our exercise cycle ICALETHICS and further ICAROS Flight Experiences. Our CEO Travis Street personally tried this out in this video and he said it was a great core workout! What do you think about using connected fitness equipment like this in the modern clubhouse gym?

This was just a small sample of the cool innovative technology that is available now, or will be in the future to the Multifamily industry.  Do you have any big development projects in the works and looking for some unique technology amenities?  Give us call and we will be happy to give you some suggestions or be a part of your development team.
